The Truth Behind Social Media - Eshal Khan

Updated: Jul 19, 2020

Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and Tiktok. The four most common social media platforms used by billions of users. Social media is internet-based which allows people to share their content to the public. Social media can have both good and bad outcomes depending on your actions and behaviour. Today, I will be sharing my thoughts and opinions on it.

Social media can have negative effects on mental health such as loneliness, being depressed, many insecurities and can be really addictive. Many people constantly check for notifications which makes them really attracted to their devices. But, using social media platforms can be exciting, helpful and could make you a lot happier. Using some social media apps can help you be more creative and express your feelings as well as discovering new things or even learning resources.

Most platforms are mainly based on socializing with people such as Snapchat. Social media can be a fun way to interact with your friends from your old school or staying up to date with your family that live across the world. But social media is a place where cyberbullying can happen. Over twenty-five percent of adolescents and teens have experienced online bullying. Some things to keep in mind are to talk to your parents if you’re getting bullied so they can help you out and if you won’t take action quickly, it’s likely that it would become a bigger conflict later on.

Social media is a place where you have to be mature enough to be responsible for your own actions and make wise choices before you put something on the internet. Always know that once something is posted to the public, it can no longer be private to yourself.
